The Bells
Seven bells are integrated into the bell system of our Church of Wies. The four larger bells I-IV are arranged one above the other, in pairs, in a shared bell-frame. The bell-frame is made of strong oak beams and is positioned freestanding in the belfry. According to the carved number of the year, the bell-frame dates back to 1752. The bell system and the bell-frame are located in the belfry in the tower.
The bells V, VI and VII are mounted on the east side of the bell-frame.
During the construction of the Church of Wies four bells were poured and installed in the tower: St. Anna -Holy Mary - Scourged Savior - Sorrowful Mother of God. In 1805, the great bell had to be given away, but with the support of the local farmers, the former sacristan Anton Straubinger was able to buy it back from the bell’s founder Nikolaus Regnault for 595 florins.
In 1918, the smallest bell had to be given up, but it was returned unharmed after the war. In 1942, all the bells in Bavaria were recorded and judged by their age and artistic value. The bells of the Wies were classified into the group of the historically most significant and did not have to be given up. A credit to the deceased Dr. Sigfrid Hofmann.
